Yayoi Kusama proved to be a most interesting inspiration for the students, who recreated her world-famous pumpkins, as well as her landscapes and Infinity Rooms. Kusama rose through difficult ranks of first leaving Japan and then creating a career for herself as a female Japanese artist in New York City in an era - the 1960's when males dominated the industry, thus making her a trailblazer.
Welcome to Art Apart!
This year marks the first ever art show at E.C.H.O. Charter School!
Students in grades K-5 experienced a wide variety of learning styles, and even the littlest learner created a canvas masterpiece, an air-dry clay hand, a Gustave Klimt project, a thumbprint tree, a Mondrian popsicle sick project, collages, and many more. There's nothing like getting your hands full of paint!
The Art Apart show features several special projects created by students during the year. Advanced Art students created a painting inspired by the London Royal Opera House's production of the "Alice in Wonderland" ballet. You will notice that the color palette in the exhibit is composed of mysterious blues and purples.
Students also created "self-portraits" based on a photograph taken of them by a classmate, as well as doing charcoal sketches of a live model. (The models quickly found out how hard it is to remain still for a long period of time!) Students also learned human anatomy by doing detailed color drawings of their own hands. (This is a trickier exercise than one would think.)
Join us today starting at noon until 8 p.m. for our first "Art Apart" Show!
